WHY ARE SOME AGENTS EXCLUSIVE WHILST OTHERS ARE NOT?

Why are some agents exclusive whilst others are not?

SEAN

It comes down to a business model.

MARKET VALUE

An exclusive agency business model allows the agent to place a certain value on their actors. The exclusivity presents a higher "market value" on the performer as it means that the performer isn't being shared by multiple stakeholders.

Whereas being with a non exclusive agent could potentially downgrade the market value of the performer as they are being shared by multiple agents. Thus some clients MAY not want to work with that particular performer.

LOGISTICS

From a logistical perspective, having the one agent allows the agent to be across all your projects and streamline communication to one person/company. However being with multiple agents, you have to communicate with multiple parties AND run the risk of confusing the casting director of who actually represents you when they received 4 submissions from 4 different agents with the same person which can be frustrating - that then becomes a race for first come first serve.

Check out my previous post exploring whether being with one or multiple agents is better for you here.
